Knox Grammar Performing Arts Centre

Four heptagon structures were built on the 3rd floor courtyard of the Performing Arts Centre at Knox Grammar School, Sydney. For patrons of the Centre these structures offer shade and weather protection.

The ground level concrete slab was unable to support a crane so components had to be painstakingly carried up three flights of stairs. Segmented crucifix joints allowed the longest and heaviest part of the frame to be bolted in-situ. This method was slow and a definite challenge to overcome on this innovative. The end result belies the difficult access.
