Mandura Fishing Pier,
Mandura WA
The structure was built on the base of the old highway bridge which was used as a fishing platform on the Mandura estuary in WA.
The 10 tonne shade structure was installed from a floating barge and pontoon. It was an engineering feat as the piers were the only anchor points for the eight x 9m posts. Built without typical footings the structure is braced to eight bridge piers on a U shaped platform which straddle a narrow channel. The structure comprises six intersecting PVDF shade sails with post hole cutouts. Lighting effects illuminate the structure by night.
This foreshore boardwalk restoration has been attentive to its heritage as a fishing pier and has become a character tourist draw card for Mandura. The Department of Main Roads WA was the client.
