In shade sails fabric is pulled under tension to connection points. Load is focused on those few connection points. Curves are a feature of shade sails and essential for tensioning. The distinct 3D twisted shape is achieved by alternating high and low posts or connection points.
Shadecloth or Waterproof fabrics are used. Shadecloth is elastic and porous allowing water to flows through the open mesh weave. PVC is waterproof and allows to water flow over the fabric.
