Paperbark Playground, Parramatta Park

The shade structures built at Paperback Park All Abilities Playground in historic Parramatta Park have many features. The design is symbolic of  convict huts found on this site.  Recycled timber hardwood and natural coloured shadecloth mesh represent the huts. The new structures are built on unique porous concrete footings which protect the old paperbark tree roots and the archaeology of this site.

The playground equipment is reminiscent of colonial times. The park is accessible to children of all abilities to play and learn about history in this unique community space.

This was a joint NSW State Government and Parramatta Council community project.
